SR18,1,1 1Relating to: commending Cold War veterans.
SR18,1,42 Whereas, the Cold War was a long and costly struggle for freedom among the
3forces of democratic nations, led by the United States, against the oppression and
4cruelty of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; and
SR18,1,95 Whereas, the Cold War began in 1945 with the threat of world domination in
6Europe and Asia by the Communist philosophy and military action. This unique war
7was marked by periodic confrontations between the West and the East, including
8international crises such as the Berlin Airlift in 1948; the Korean War, 1950-53; the
9Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962; and the Vietnam War, 1960-1975; and
SR18,1,1110 Whereas, tens of thousands of Wisconsin veterans served in our nation's armed
11forces during this long conflict, and many lost their lives; and
SR18,1,1312 Whereas, the Cold War Veterans Association has identified May 1 as the day
13to honor our victory in the Cold War; now, therefore, be it

1Resolved by the senate, That the entire Wisconsin state legislature
2recognizes the devotion and sacrifices of Cold War veterans, and commends them for
3their role in preventing a third world war and preserving world peace.
