1Relating to: recognition of Lonni Sowieja, Administrative Assistant in the Office of
2the Assembly Chief Clerk, on the occasion of her retirement from 34 years of
3faithful service to the Wisconsin state assembly.

Whereas, Lonni Sowieja began her career with the Wisconsin legislature on
5November 19, 1973, working for Rep. Louise Tesmer, Rep. Chester Gerlach, Rep.
6Virgil Roberts, Rep. Michael Kirby, Rep. James Holperin, Rep. Tom Ourada, and the
7Office of the Assembly Chief Clerk; and

Whereas, Lonni's positive attitude and devotion to the Wisconsin state
9assembly was apparent through superior performance awards over the course of her
10employment, her abilities repeatedly characterized as "outstanding," "excellent,"
11"exceptional," and "hardworking"; and

Whereas, one of 12 children, Lonni grew up on a dairy farm in Greenwood, a
13small town in central Wisconsin; and

Whereas, Lonni married her wonderful husband Gene Sowieja, on August 7,
151976, in Greenwood, Wisconsin, and together with him had 3 daughters, Tamra,
1Kari, and Kelsey, and recently welcomed one granddaughter, Taylor, who is 15
2months old and their pride and joy; and

Whereas, Lonni has been a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish
4choir for the past 6 years, sang "barbershop" at weddings with her sisters, and was
5a member of Madison's Sweet Adelines for 5 years, participating in state
6competitions; and

Whereas, Lonni has volunteered at the Luke House in Madison and is an avid
8blood donor for the American Red Cross; and

Whereas, Lonni has a great passion for the outdoors, especially gardening,
10taking great pride in 2 very large gardens that surround her home, tending to them
11with a green thumb that is the envy of friends and neighbors, and produces her
12favorite flowers, tulips and lilies; now, therefore, be it

13Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly
14express sincere thanks to Lonni Sowieja for her years of service in the assembly; and,

16Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk, in the presence of the members of the
17assembly, shall present a copy of this resolution to Lonni Sowieja and her family.
