2007 - 2008 LEGISLATURE
April 30, 2007 - Introduced by
Committee on Elections and Constitutional Law.
Referred to Committee on Elections and Constitutional Law.
AB295,1,2
1An Act to amend 6.36 (1) (b) 1. a. of the statutes;
relating to: public access to
2voter registration identification numbers.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Currently, the Elections Board (Government Accountability Board sometime
after August 31, 2007) is directed by law to assign a unique registration
identification number to each elector whose name appears on the official statewide
voter registration list. The law also provides that no person other than an employee
of the board, a municipal clerk, a deputy clerk, an executive director of a city board
of election commissioners, or a deputy designated by the executive director may view
the registration identification number.
This bill eliminates the confidentiality of registration identification numbers,
thus making the numbers publicly accessible.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
