AB548,1,2 1An Act to create 947.0125 (4) of the statutes; relating to: sending an electronic
2message that appears to be from another person and providing a penalty.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill makes it a Class I felony to send an electronic message and
intentionally make it appear that the message is from a particular person without
that person's consent. For a Class I felony, a person may be imprisoned not more than
three and one-half years, fined not more than $10,000, or both.
Because this bill creates a new crime or revises a penalty for an existing crime,
the Joint Review Committee on Criminal Penalties may be requested to prepare a
report concerning the proposed penalty and the costs or savings that are likely to
result if the bill is enacted.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

5the message is from a particular person without that person's consent is guilty of a
6Class I felony.
