1An Act relating to: a report on food safety programs.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer
Protection (DATCP) regulates retail food establishments, such as grocery stores, and
the department of health and family services (DHFS), which is renamed the
Department of Health Services on July 1, 2008, regulates restaurants.
This bill requires DATCP and DHFS to prepare a plan to consolidate their food
safety programs into one food safety program.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

Report on food safety programs. The department of agriculture, trade and
4consumer protection and the department of health and family services (called the
5department of health services beginning on July 1, 2008), jointly, shall prepare a plan
6to consolidate their food safety programs into one food safety program. The
1departments shall submit a report on the plan, including a description of the
2efficiencies and the amount of savings that would result from the plan, to the
3members of the senate and assembly no later than the first day of the 13th month
4beginning after the effective date of this subsection.
