AB832,1,3 1An Act to create 20.255 (2) (em) and 115.353 of the statutes; relating to:
2providing services to homeless public school pupils and making an
3appropriation.

This bill appropriates funds to the Department of Public Instruction in order
to enable school districts to provide services to homeless pupils . Under the bill, each
school district annually receives $100 for each homeless pupil enrolled in the school
district. The school district must use the funds to provide services to homeless pupils
in order to enable them to attend and succeed in school, and to develop and
implement professional development programs for school district personnel to
heighten their awareness of, and capacity to respond to, problems in the education
of homeless pupils.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB832, s. 1 4Section 1. 20.255 (2) (em) of the statutes is created to read:
AB832,1,65 20.255 (2) (em) Grants for services to homeless pupils. A sum sufficient for
6grants to school districts to provide services to homeless pupils under s. 115.353.

1Section 2. 115.353 of the statutes is created to read:
AB832,2,4 2115.353 Assistance to schools for services to homeless pupils. (1) In this
3section, "homeless pupils" means homeless children and youth, as defined in 42 USC
411434a
.
AB832,2,8 5(2) From the appropriation under s. 20.255 (2) (em), annually the department
6shall pay to each school district an amount equal to $100 multiplied by the number
7of homeless pupils who are enrolled in the school district. The school board shall use
8the funds for the following purposes:
AB832,2,109 (a) Providing services that enable homeless pupils to attend and succeed in
10school.
AB832,2,1311 (b) Developing and implementing professional development programs for
12school district personnel to heighten their awareness of, and capacity to respond to,
13problems in the education of homeless pupils.
AB832, s. 3 14Section 3. Effective date.
AB832,2,1515 (1) This act takes effect on July 1, 2008.
