AB878,1,3 An Act to amend 119.04 (1); and to create 115.365 (3) of the statutes; relating to: providing information about suicide prevention to public and private school professional staff.

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

Current law directs the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), in conjunction with the Department of Health and Family Services and the Department of Children and Families, to develop and conduct training programs in suicide prevention for the professional staff of public and private schools.

This bill requires each school board and the governing body of each private school annually to inform their professional staff of the resources available from DPI and other sources regarding suicide prevention.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB878, s. 1 Section 1. 115.365 (3) of the statutes is created to read:

AB878,2,4 115.365 (3) Each school board and the governing body of each private school annually shall inform their professional staff of the resources available from the department and other sources regarding suicide prevention. The department annually shall provide school boards and the governing bodies of private schools with a model notice, describing the suicide prevention services that it has developed and how staff may access those services, that school boards and governing bodies of private schools may use to inform their professional staff.

AB878, s. 2 Section 2. 119.04 (1) of the statutes, as affected by 2007 Wisconsin Act 20, is amended to read:
