AJR115,1,43 Whereas, Chancellor John P. "Jack" Keating is ending a career of excellence in
4higher education; and
AJR115,1,65 Whereas, Chancellor Keating served as chancellor of the University of
6Wisconsin-Parkside for ten successful years; and
AJR115,1,107 Whereas, Chancellor Keating is a native of San Francisco and has spent more
8than 36 years in public education, earned his Ph.D. in social psychology from Ohio
9State University, and from there moved to join the psychology faculty at the
10University of Washington; and
AJR115,1,1311 Whereas, at the University of Washington Chancellor Keating was appointed
12founding dean and vice provost of two new University of Washington campuses and
13also served as the first provost at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks; and
AJR115,2,414 Whereas, Chancellor Keating achieved countless goals throughout his time at
15UW-Parkside, including stabilizing and growing enrollment to 5,100 students from

155 Wisconsin counties making UW-Parkside the most diverse student body in the
2UW System, establishing the Center for Community Partnerships, championing
3student success initiatives, and establishing the Chancellor's Task Force on
4Environmental Stewardship; and
AJR115,2,85 Whereas, during Chancellor Keating's time, UW-Parkside was the only
6university in Wisconsin and one of 64 universities nationwide to be designated an
7"engaged campus" by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching;
8and
AJR115,2,139 Whereas, Chancellor Keating led the effort to establish numerous business
10partnerships and served on many boards, including the National Advisory Board of
11the Red Cross in Washington, D.C., for five years where he convened and chaired an
12international meeting of high-rise evacuation experts in New York City to study
13lessons learned from the World Trade Center tragedy; and
AJR115,2,1714 Whereas, over $100,000,000 in building programs, including the expansion of
15the student union and communication arts building, were initiated by Chancellor
16Keating, and his willingness to work tirelessly with state legislators to bring funding
17to the campus and UW System was unparalleled; and
AJR115,2,2118 Whereas, Chancellor Keating made UW-Parkside an example of the essence
19of higher education, and we take this opportunity to celebrate this exemplary leader
20whose humble, mild-mannered approach never failed to persuade others to see his
21light; now, therefore, be it
AJR115,3,2 22Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
23Wisconsin legislature commend Chancellor Keating for his lifetime commitment to

1higher education and dedication to making UW-Parkside an institution of higher
2learning that is in his very accurate words, "excellent education for everyone."
