AJR119,1,43 Whereas, most people do not realize that the skin is the largest and most visible
4organ of the body and performs many essential tasks; and
AJR119,1,65 Whereas, more than 1 million new cases of skin cancer will be diagnosed in the
6United States this year; and
AJR119,1,87 Whereas, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer during his or her
8lifetime; and
AJR119,1,109 Whereas, this year, there will be about 116,500 new cases of melanoma, the
10deadliest form of skin cancer; and
AJR119,1,1311 Whereas, melanoma is the most common form of cancer for young adults
12between the ages of 25 and 29 and the second most common form of cancer for
13adolescents and young adults between the ages of 15 and 29; and
AJR119,1,1514 Whereas, more than 75 percent of all skin cancer deaths are from melanoma,
15and one person dies almost every hour from melanoma; and

1Whereas, melanoma and other skin cancers, if detected early, are highly
2treatable; and
AJR119,2,63 Whereas, the American Academy of Dermatology's Melanoma and Skin Cancer
4Detection and Prevention Month is a public education campaign designed to promote
5the prevention and early detection of melanoma and other skin cancers through its
6See Spot...Check Spot...Save a Life campaign; now, therefore, be it
AJR119,2,9 7Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
8legislature formally recognizes May as Melanoma and Skin Cancer Detection and
9Prevention Month in Wisconsin; and, be it further
AJR119,2,13 10Resolved, That the legislature formally recognizes the work and success of the
11Wisconsin Dermatological Society in educating the citizens of Wisconsin on how to
12spot the warning signs of skin cancer through both skin self-examinations and free
13skin cancer screenings offered by dermatologists.
