AJR43,1,52 Whereas, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary John A. Scocos
3first enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1979 and continues in the U.S. Army Reserves as
4a colonel serving as military assistant in the Office of the Secretary of the Army at
5the Pentagon; and
AJR43,1,86 Whereas, John. A. Scocos first joined the Wisconsin Department of Veterans
7Affairs in 1997 as the department's executive assistant and served as executive
8assistant until 2001; and
AJR43,1,109 Whereas, John A. Scocos served the legislature as a legislative assistant in the
10senate and as sergeant-at-arms and chief clerk of the assembly; and
AJR43,1,1211 Whereas, John A. Scocos rejoined the Wisconsin Department of Veterans
12Affairs as deputy secretary in 2002 and became secretary in 2003; and
AJR43,2,213 Whereas, during his time as secretary, John A. Scocos worked with the
14legislature to create and develop the new Wisconsin GI bill, the VetEd program, the

1Wisconsin veterans and surviving spouses property tax credit, and numerous other
2programs that will assist veterans and their families throughout the state; and
AJR43,2,83 Whereas, Secretary Scocos continues to provide a high level of quality service
4to both the legislature and veterans throughout the state and has earned the 2006
5Wisconsin State Department of the American Legion Leadership Medal, the 2006
6Wisconsin State Council of Vietnam Veterans of America Distinguished Service
7Award, and the 2006 Disabled American Veterans Distinguished Service Award,
8each of which is the highest award given by these organizations; and
AJR43,2,109 Whereas, John is devoted to his wife, Kelly, and children, Chloe, Andreas, and
10Costa; now, therefore, be it
AJR43,2,14 11Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
12Wisconsin legislature commend Secretary John A. Scocos for his exemplary service
13to the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and salute him as he returns to
14active duty military service in Iraq.
