AJR55,1,1 Relating to: supporting Taiwan's admission to the World Health Organization.

AJR55,1,4 Whereas, good health is essential to every citizen of the world, and access to the highest standards of health information and services is necessary to improve public health; and

AJR55,1,7 Whereas, the World Health Organization (WHO) has set forth in the first chapter of its charter the principle of "universal participation" to advance the health of all people, including the 23 million people in Taiwan; and

AJR55,1,10 Whereas, direct and unobstructed participation in international health forums and programs is essential to limit the spread of various infectious diseases, including severe acute respiratory syndrome and avian flu; and

AJR55,1,13 Whereas, in recent years the Republic of China (Taiwan) has expressed a willingness to assist financially and technically in international health activities supported by WHO; and

AJR55,2,3 Whereas, the United States, in the 1994 Taiwan Policy Review, declared its intention to support Taiwan's participation in appropriate international organizations; and

AJR55,2,6 Whereas, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and its Taiwanese counterpart have enjoyed close collaboration on a wide range of public health issues; and

AJR55,2,9 Whereas, Taiwan values the principles of democracy, religious freedom, humanitarianism, and market economics, which are hallmarks of the state of Wisconsin and of the United States of America; now, therefore, be it

AJR55,2,12 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature support Taiwan's admission as an observer to WHO and its full participation in WHO; and, be it further

AJR55,2,15 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to the World Health Organization and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago, Illinois.
