AJR82,1,42 Whereas, Corporal Rachael L. Hugo was born May 13, 1983, in Madison,
3Wisconsin, and was "Killed in Action" on October 5, 2007, in Bayji, Iraq, when her
4unit came under fire by anti-Iraqi forces; and
AJR82,1,85 Whereas, Corporal Hugo served with distinction and compassion as a Combat
6Medic, member of the 79th Military Police Company and was attached to the 303rd
7Military Police Company, 97th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police
8Brigade, United State Army Reserve; and
AJR82,1,119 Whereas, Corporal Hugo was known as "Combat Barbie," regularly
10volunteered to go out on missions, including her final mission, and always wanted
11to be there for "her guys" in case someone got hurt; and
AJR82,1,1312 Whereas, Corporal Hugo told her family that "being a medic is what I chose to
13do, and being a medic is what I love to do!"; and
AJR82,2,314 Whereas, Corporal Hugo was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple
15Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Combat Medic Badge, The Army Good

1Conduct Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service
2Medal, all awards being presented to her parents at her funeral service, and is
3receiving another award from the Iraq theater which has not yet been disclosed; and
AJR82,2,74 Whereas, Corporal Hugo will be remembered by her family as a great student
5all through school, making the Dean's list while working toward her Bachelors
6Degree in Nursing at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and taking pride
7in her fluency in both Spanish and Russian; and
AJR82,2,118 Whereas, Corporal Hugo will be remembered by family and friends as an
9individual who loved life to its fullest, enjoying many hobbies and activities including
10hiking, camping, hunting and fishing, dancing, movies, and shopping with the people
11who loved her; and
AJR82,2,1412 Whereas, Corporal Hugo loved her country and her family and was honored to
13serve both and will be deeply missed by family and friends and those she served with;
14now, therefore, be it
AJR82,2,18 15Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature of
16the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Rachael L. Hugo and
17extends its deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and colleagues, and, be it
18further
AJR82,3,8 19Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
20resolution to Rachael L. Hugo's parents, Kermit and Ruth Hugo, of Madison; her
