AR13,1,73 Whereas, during its current term, the United States Supreme Court will
4consider in District of Columbia v. Dick Anthony Heller, No. 07-290, the question of
5whether the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution embraces an
6individual's right "to keep and bear arms" for purposes unrelated to service in a
7militia or other military organization; and
AR13,1,118 Whereas, the Supreme Court has not yet held that the Second Amendment
9protects against federal encroachment of an individual's right "to keep and bear
10arms" for purposes unrelated to service in a militia or other military organization;
11and
AR13,1,1512 Whereas, Wisconsin citizens, through article I, section 25, of the Wisconsin
13Constitution, have unequivocally protected in Wisconsin an individual's "right to
14keep and bear arms for security, defense, hunting, recreation or any other lawful
15purpose"; and

1Whereas, the Wisconsin assembly desires that the Supreme Court be advised
2of Wisconsin citizens' interest in having the Supreme Court's decision in District of
3Columbia v. Dick Anthony Heller
, No. 07-290, protect from federal encroachment the
4right of individuals under the Wisconsin Constitution to keep and bear arms for
5purposes unrelated to service in a militia or other military organization; and
AR13,2,96 Whereas, the Wisconsin assembly desires that the Supreme Court be advised
7of Wisconsin citizens' interest in having the Supreme Court's decision in District of
8Columbia v. Dick Anthony Heller
, No. 07-290, preserve Wisconsin citizens' right to
9decide the scope of this protection under the Wisconsin Constitution; and
AR13,2,1310 Whereas, the attorney general of Wisconsin has prepared an amicus curiae
11brief that will advise the United States Supreme Court of Wisconsin citizens'
12concerns and interests regarding the Supreme Court's decision in District of
13Columbia v. Dick Anthony Heller

AR13,2,17 14Resolved by the assembly, That pursuant to section 165.25 (1m) of the
15Wisconsin statutes, the assembly authorizes the attorney general to file in the
16Supreme Court a brief as amicus curiae in support of the respondent in District of
17Columbia v. Dick Anthony Heller
