SJR104,1,1 1Relating to: recognizing May 12, 2008, as Fibromyalgia Awareness Day.
SJR104,1,42 Whereas, fibromyalgia is a disease with uncertain cause and no known cure;
3this chronic condition affects an estimated seven to ten million people in the United
4States and many more millions of people worldwide; and
SJR104,1,65 Whereas, fibromyalgia is more likely to affect women, occurring nine times out
6of ten in women; and
SJR104,1,97 Whereas, fibromyalgia is a very serious and chronic illness, increasing at
8dramatic rates, causing those affected to suffer from fatigue and debilitating pain in
9the muscles, ligaments, and tendons; and
SJR104,1,1310 Whereas, people living with this condition learn to live with difficulty in
11performing everyday activities, such as climbing stairs, lifting weight, and
12performing other actions involving physical strain, and with widespread pain in
13muscles, joints, and ligaments; and

1Whereas, people with fibromyalgia face discrimination in the workplace and
2from family and friends because so few people are aware or understand what
3fibromyalgia is and the symptoms with which it manifests; and
SJR104,2,74 Whereas, a diagnosis of fibromyalgia is difficult and takes an average of five
5years because many of the symptoms mimic those of other disorders, resulting in the
6average person spending thousands of dollars in medical bills just to receive a
7diagnosis; and
SJR104,2,108 Whereas, public education is important in order for patients to receive proper
9diagnosis and treatment; public awareness will help to eliminate the myths, improve
10patient support, and encourage research; now, therefore, be it
SJR104,2,14 11Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That May 12, 2008, be
12recognized as Fibromyalgia Awareness Day in Wisconsin, and all citizens are
13encouraged to support those seeking a cure for fibromyalgia and to assist those
14individuals and families who on a daily basis deal with this devastating disease.
