SJR38,1,1 1Relating to: honoring the UW-Green Bay women's basketball team.
SJR38,1,52 Whereas, the UW-Green Bay women's basketball team, the Phoenix, posted a
3perfect 16-0 record in the Horizon League, which hasn't been done in 18 years and
4defeated Butler 91-64 in the championship game of the Horizon League women's
5basketball tournament to extend its school-record winning streak to 25 games; and
SJR38,1,96 Whereas, senior forward Nicole Soulis became the first player in 17 seasons to
7earn back-to-back Horizon League Player of the Year honors, also earned a spot on
8the Horizon League all-defensive team, and has been named a finalist for the 2007
9Kodak Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America Basketball Team; and
SJR38,1,1410 Whereas, senior guard Natalie Berglin also made the Horizon League
11first-team by averaging 11.2 points per game in league play and leading the league
12in both assist-turnover ratio (2.88) and assists per game (4.55), and junior guard
13Kayla Groh joined Nicole Soulis on the league's all-defensive team and also led the
14conference in free throw percentage at .886; and

1Whereas, the Phoenix as a team led the Horizon League in 11 major statistical
2categories including scoring offense, scoring defense, free throw percentage, field
3goal percentage, and assists; and
SJR38,2,74 Whereas, Coach Kevin Borseth was named Horizon League Coach of the Year
5for the 7th time in 9 seasons after the Phoenix clinched their 9th straight Horizon
6League regular season title, and Borseth continues to lead the league in overall
7regular season Horizon League victories with 125; and
SJR38,2,118 Whereas, the Phoenix headed to the NCAA Tournament for the 8th time in the
9last 10 seasons and earned the number 9 seed in the Fresno regional, where they
10defeated number 8 seed New Mexico 59-52 in the first round, and went on to face
11number 1 seed University of Connecticut; and
SJR38,2,1412 Whereas, the Phoenix gave the University of Connecticut an incredible fight
13and even led at halftime before falling in their NCAA tournament 2nd round game;
14now, therefore, be it
SJR38,2,19 15Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of
16the state of Wisconsin recognizes and salutes the 2006-2007 University of
17Wisconsin-Green Bay women's basketball team and Head Coach Kevin Borseth on
18a record-setting regular season and remarkable NCAA tournament run; and, be it
19further
SJR38,2,22 20Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
21resolution to Head Coach Kevin Borseth, his staff, each member of the team, and
22Athletic Director Ken Bothof.
