2007 Senate JOINT RESOLUTION 51

SJR51,1,2 Relating to: commending Jeff Nania upon receipt of the 2007 National Wetlands Award.

SJR51,1,4 Whereas, Mr. Jeff Nania of Portage, Wisconsin, serves as executive director for the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association; and

SJR51,1,7 Whereas, Mr. Nania began his service with the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association in 1993 as its project director and in 14 years he has led wetland restoration projects in more than 200 locations statewide; and

SJR51,1,11 Whereas, in 1996, Mr. Nania launched Outdoor Adventure Days, an interactive outdoor classroom that has provided more than 7,000 Wisconsin youth with interactive outdoor classroom experiences, strengthening their connection with and appreciation for our natural resources; and

SJR51,2,2 Whereas, in 2002, Mr. Nania helped found River Crossing Environmental Charter School, a nationally recognized school for grades 7 and 8 to inculcate a passion and knowledge for future generations of conservationists and wetland restoration leaders in Wisconsin, and Mr. Nania continues to teach students there as they plan and implement restoration projects; and

SJR51,2,6 Whereas, Mr. Nania has worked with hundreds of landowners and natural resource professionals, teaching wetland restoration practices, he has led thousands of school children in restoration activities, and he works actively with state and federal legislators to advance wetland conservation public policy; and

SJR51,2,13 Whereas, Mr. Nania's extraordinary effort, innovation, and excellence in wetland conservation, research, and education, has led to his recognition as one of 6 recipients of the 2007 National Wetlands Award by the Environmental Law Institute, on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Highway Administration, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, USDA Forest Service, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, NOAA Fisheries, and the US Army Corps of Engineers; now, therefore, be it

SJR51,2,16 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature congratulates Jeff Nania on the occasion of his national recognition for leadership in wetland restoration; and, be it further

SJR51,2,21 Resolved, That the Wisconsin legislature commends Jeff Nania for his leadership as an advocate for wetland restoration in the state, his direct role to restore thousands of acres of Wisconsin wetlands, and for providing a role model to inculcate a passion for natural resource conservation in Wisconsin youth; and, be it further

SJR51,2,23 Resolved, That that the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Mr. Nania.
