2007 Senate JOINT RESOLUTION 93

SJR93,1,1 Relating to: commending the Green Bay Packers on their outstanding 2007 season.

SJR93,1,6 Whereas, this past football season, second-year Green Bay Packer head coach Mike McCarthy led the youngest team in the NFL which had finished 8-8 last season, to a 13-3 division record, an NFC North Division title, the number two overall seed in the NFC, and a berth in the NFC Championship Game, and was named 2007 Motorola NFL Coach of the Year; and

SJR93,1,11 Whereas, Brett Favre finished fourth in the league in passing yards with 4,155 and also set four milestone records this year, including the most wins by a quarterback with 160, the most career touchdown passes with 442, and the all-time career passing yards mark of 61,655, which led to him being selected to the Pro Bowl for the ninth time and being named the FedEx Air NFL player of the year; and

SJR93,1,15 Whereas, Nick Barnett led the team in regular-season tackles for the fourth time in his five-year career, and finished fifth in the league with 131, and a year after posting a career-best 15 and one-half sacks, Aaron Kampman followed it up with a dozen more this season and a second straight trip to the Pro Bowl; and

SJR93,2,4 Whereas, Ryan Grant rushed for 956 yards on just 188 regular-season attempts with nearly all the yardage gained after he took over as starting running back due to injuries in Week 8, and he rushed for a franchise playoff record 201 yards in the divisional game against the Seattle Seahawks; and

SJR93,2,6 Whereas, Chad Clifton earned his first career Pro Bowl bid and joined teammates Brett Favre, Donald Driver, Aaron Kampman, and Al Harris; and

SJR93,2,10 Whereas, on defense, the Packers tied for sixth in the NFL, allowing only 291 total points, as well as tied for sixth in interceptions with 19, and on offense, they came in second in total yards per game with 370.7 and total passing yards per game with 270.9, and fourth in total points scored with 435; and

SJR93,2,16 Whereas, despite falling 23-20 in overtime against the New York Giants in the NFC Championship Game, the Packers had a remarkable season in which they beat the Minnesota Vikings 34-0 at Lambeau Field on November 11, 2007, giving the Packers their first shutout against Minnesota in their 94-game series, matched the franchise mark for most regular-season victories, and hosted two playoff games for the first time since the 1996 season; now, therefore, be it

SJR93,2,20 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the Green Bay Packer coaches, players, and entire organization on their incredible 14-win season and wish them the best of luck in next year's campaign.
