SR26,1,52 Whereas, Mr. James Howard Baker was a draftsman and engineer for the city
3of Milwaukee and was a founding member of the Community Brainstorming
4Conference, an ongoing, dynamic community forum in Milwaukee dedicated to the
5exchange of ideas on current issues of concern to Milwaukee; and
SR26,1,86 Whereas, Mr. James Howard Baker was known for his dedication to the highest
7ideals of the community with a quiet commitment, sustained hard work, and
8unimpeachable integrity; and
SR26,1,129 Whereas, Mr. James Howard Baker's legacy has been immortalized by the
10Community Brainstorming Conference with the creation in 1989 of the James
11Howard Baker Award, which is given annually to a person who serves Milwaukee's
12people of color; and
SR26,2,213 Whereas, the James Howard Baker Award has been given in the past to such
14notable community luminaries as James Cameron, founder of the Black Holocaust

1Museum, civil rights activist and former state Representative Lloyd Barbee, and
2United States Congresswoman Gwen Moore; and
SR26,2,53 Whereas, the adoption of this senate resolution is supported not only by the
4senate, but also by members of the assembly, including specifically Representatives
5Young, Grigsby, Turner, Sheridan, Toles, and Zepnick; now, therefore, be it
SR26,2,9 6Resolved by the senate, That the members of the Wisconsin state senate
7honor the life of Mr. James Howard Baker for the legacy of community involvement
8and dedication to the improvement of Milwaukee through a free and open exchange
9of ideas.
