SR27,1,1 1Relating to: commending the career and accomplishments of Mr. Billy Bruton.
SR27,1,42 Whereas, Mr. William Hall "Bullet Bill" Bruton began his major league baseball
3career the same year the Braves moved from Boston to Milwaukee, starring in center
4field from 1953 to 1960; and
SR27,1,75 Whereas, Mr. Billy Bruton became an immediate hero in Milwaukee when he
6hit a tenth inning home run to clinch the season opening win against St. Louis, the
7first of 94 career home runs; and
SR27,1,118 Whereas, Mr. Billy Bruton played with such notable stars as Joe Adcock, Eddie
9Matthews, Warren Spahn, and Hank Aaron but was a star in his own right with a
10career batting average of .273 and as the league leader in stolen bases three
11consecutive seasons; and
SR27,1,1412 Whereas, Mr. Billy Bruton was injured for the 1957 World Series which the
13Milwaukee Braves won, but lead the 1958 World Series with a .412 batting average,
14making him one of the most beloved Milwaukee Braves; and

1Whereas, the adoption of this senate resolution is supported not only by the
2senate, but also by members of the assembly, including specifically Representatives
3Young, Grigsby, Turner, Zepnick, Sheridan, and Toles; now, therefore, be it
SR27,2,7 4Resolved by the senate, That the senate of the state of Wisconsin honors Mr.
5Billy Bruton for being a hero to the fans of the Milwaukee Braves and celebrates the
6career and accomplishments of one of the first, and one of the best, African-American
7major league baseball players.
