AB188,1,3 1An Act to create 20.255 (2) (er) and 115.28 (44) of the statutes; relating to:
2awarding grants to school districts for language immersion schools and making
3an appropriation.

This bill directs the Department of Public Instruction annually to award grants
to school districts that operate language immersion schools in any grade from
kindergarten to 8. A language immersion school is one in which the second language
is used in all instruction (other than in English instruction) and in all classroom
activities. The amount of each grant is $1,000 times the number of pupils enrolled
in the language immersion school.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

AB188,1,65 20.255 (2) (er) Grants for language immersion schools. A sum sufficient for
6grants to school districts for language immersion schools under s. 115.28 (44).

1Section 2. 115.28 (44) of the statutes is created to read:
AB188,2,82 115.28 (44) Grants for language immersion schools. From the appropriation
3under s. 20.255 (2) (er), annually award a grant to each school district that operates,
4in any grade from kindergarten to 8, a language immersion school, in which the
5second language is used in all instruction, other than in English instruction, and all
6class activities are conducted in the second language. The amount of a grant is equal
7to $1,000 multiplied by the number of pupils who are enrolled in the language
8immersion school.
