AJR103,1,32 Whereas, cardiovascular disease is the nation's leading cause of death with
3direct and indirect costs estimated to be $475.3 billion in 2009; and
AJR103,1,54 Whereas, cardiovascular disease accounts for over 35 percent of all deaths
5nationwide; and
AJR103,1,76 Whereas, nearly 2,400 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each day, an
7average of one death every 37 seconds; and
AJR103,1,118 Whereas, an estimated 785,000 people in the United States will have a new
9coronary attack, an estimated 470,000 people nationwide will have a recurrent
10attack, and an additional 195,000 "silent" coronary attacks will go undiagnosed this
11year; and
AJR103,1,1312 Whereas, cardiovascular disease accounts for over 32 percent of all deaths in
13Wisconsin; and

4rates from cardiovascular disease; and
AJR103,2,85 Whereas, efforts of the American Heart Association encourage citizens to help
6save lives by calling 9-1-1 if symptoms occur, by becoming trained in CPR, and by
7encouraging comprehensive automated external defibrillator (AED) programs in
8their communities; and
AJR103,2,119 Whereas, the American Heart Association is celebrating February 2010 as
10American Heart Month and promoting education and awareness by encouraging
11citizens to learn the warning signs of heart attack and stroke; now, therefore, be it
AJR103,2,14 12Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That in recognition of
13the importance of the ongoing fight against heart disease, the legislature proclaims
14February 2010 to be American Heart Month.
