AJR110,1,32 Whereas, Robert D. Haase was born on May 10, 1923, in Marinette, Wisconsin,
3and died on September 30, 2009, in Mount Rainier, Maryland; and
AJR110,1,54 Whereas, Robert D. Haase earned an L.L.B. degree from UW-Madison in 1951;
5and
AJR110,1,66 Whereas, Mr. Haase served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946; and
AJR110,1,87 Whereas, Mr. Haase had a love for American Legion baseball and served as
8Wisconsin American Legion baseball commissioner for many years; and
AJR110,1,109 Whereas, Mr. Haase started the Marinette American Legion baseball team in
101951 and coached the team for over 30 years; and
AJR110,1,1211 Whereas, Mr. Haase was first elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1956,
12serving in the 1957 to 1965 sessions; and
AJR110,2,213 Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature, Mr. Haase was the republican
14caucus chair during the 1959 session, the republican floor leader during the 1961

1session, the speaker of the assembly during the 1963 session, and the minority leader
2during the 1965 session; and
AJR110,2,53 Whereas, on September 15, 1965, Robert D. Haase resigned from the
4legislature to become the commissioner of insurance and served in that position until
51969 and again from 1987 to 1992; and
AJR110,2,86 Whereas, his commitment to education included service as adjunct professor at
7UW-Madison both in the law school and school of business and several terms on the
8Marinette school board; now, therefore be it
AJR110,2,12 9Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
10Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Robert D. Haase
11contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and
12extend their condolences to his family and friends; and be it further
AJR110,2,15 13Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
14resolution to Robert D. Haase's brother, William Haase and his sister-in- law, Jean
15Haase of Punta Gorda, Florida.
