AJR19,1,32 Whereas, Carroll E. Metzner was born on April 24, 1919, in Milwaukee,
3Wisconsin, and died on December 6, 2008, in Madison, Wisconsin; and
AJR19,1,64 Whereas, Mr. Metzner earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern
5University in 1941 and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of
6Wisconsin-Madison in 1943; and
AJR19,1,87 Whereas, Mr. Metzner began his political career on the Madison city council
8where he served from 1951 to 1956; and
AJR19,1,109 Whereas, Mr. Metzner was first elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1954,
10representing Dane 3, serving in the 1955 and 1957 sessions; and
AJR19,1,1311 Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature, the legislature passed the
12"Metzner bill," which restricted the height of buildings along the Madison
13lakeshores; and

1Whereas, after his service in the legislature, Mr. Metzner was an active and
2thoughtful member of the Republican Party and ably served as a county and district
3chairman; and
AJR19,2,54 Whereas, he cared deeply about Madison and introduced the city to numerous
5visiting students from around the world; now, therefore, be it
AJR19,2,9 6Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
7Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Carroll E. Metzner
8contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and
9extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
AJR19,2,11 10Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
11resolution to Mr. Metzner's wife of over 64 years, Marjorie.
