AJR28,1,2 1Relating to: commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Lower Wisconsin State
2Riverway.
AJR28,1,63 Whereas, the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway law was enacted on August 3,
41989, by Wisconsin Act 31, in order to protect and preserve the scenic quality and
5natural character of the lower Wisconsin River valley and to provide a quality public
6use recreation area for current and future Wisconsin residents; and
AJR28,1,87 Whereas, the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway encompasses nearly 80,000
8acres of public and private lands along the final 92 miles of the Wisconsin River; and
AJR28,1,129 Whereas, the unique and innovative aesthetic protection regulations became
10effective on October 31, 1989, and were to be administered by a new state agency, the
11Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board, with the board holding its inaugural
12meeting in Muscoda, Wisconsin, on November 1, 1989; and
AJR28,2,213 Whereas, the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board has maintained the
14fragile and delicate balance between the protection and preservation of the aesthetic

1integrity of the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway and the protection of the rights of
2landowners and local residents; and
AJR28,2,63 Whereas, the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board has worked with the
4Ho-Chunk Nation and other tribal governments, the Wisconsin State Historical
5Society, the National Park Service, and area residents to protect the many cultural
6and historical resources of the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway; and
AJR28,2,107 Whereas, the Wisconsin department of natural resources has worked in
8partnership with the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board to acquire lands from
9willing sellers and to manage public lands for the benefit of the citizens of Wisconsin,
10as well as to create recreational opportunities for our citizens; and
AJR28,2,1311 Whereas, the success of the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway project is due to
12the cooperation from landowners, residents, and local governments from the lower
13Wisconsin River valley; now, therefore, be it
AJR28,2,19 14Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
15Wisconsin legislature hereby recognize the 20th anniversary of the establishment of
16the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway and commend the Lower Wisconsin State
17Riverway Board and the citizens and communities of the lower Wisconsin River
18valley for their diligent efforts to protect this outstanding natural, scenic, and
19recreational resource for the people of Wisconsin.
