AJR37,1,42 Whereas, on November 4, 1909, Arthur P. Warner made the first controlled
3flight of an airplane in Wisconsin, flying his Curtiss airplane in Beloit, Wisconsin;
4and
AJR37,1,65 Whereas, Arthur P. Warner was the first individual American to purchase an
6airplane and the eleventh American to pilot an airplane; and
AJR37,1,77 Whereas, November 4, 2009, marks Wisconsin's Centennial of Flight; and
AJR37,1,128 Whereas, aviation has played a vital role in Wisconsin's history both in peace
9and wartime with prominent leaders including World War I Air Corps Commander
10General Billy Mitchell, Air Racing Champion Steve Wittman, World War II Ace of
11Aces Major Richard I. Bong, Experimental Aircraft Association founder Paul
12Poberezny plus many others; and
AJR37,2,613 Whereas, the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame, as the premier Wisconsin
14aviation historical organization, has the mission to collect, preserve, and share the
15history of aviation in Wisconsin and to honor Wisconsin's aviation heroes, is

1organizing a statewide commemoration of Wisconsin's Centennial of Flight by
2publicizing the event in the state's media, helping local aviation, historical, and
3educational organizations to participate in the event, creating and displaying
4around the state a special historical exhibit on Warner's flight, and sponsoring the
5construction of a quarter-scale model of Warner's airplane to accompany the exhibit;
6and
AJR37,2,147 Whereas, the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame is sponsoring, along with
8organizations in the Beloit area, including EAA Chapter 60, the Beloit Convention
9and Visitors Bureau, the Beloit Historical Society, and the Beloit Area School
10District, numerous commemorative and educational events in the Beloit area during
11the first week of November 2009, including the rededication of the A.P. Warner
12historical marker, a reenactment of Warner's flight, a special exhibit at the Beloit
13Historical Society, a lecture by a distinguished aviation scholar, and programs in the
14local schools, now, therefore, be it
AJR37,2,18 15Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
16legislature proclaims the month of November 2009, Centennial of Flight Month in
17the state of Wisconsin, and encourages all citizens of this state to participate in
18Centennial of Flight celebrations.
