AJR42,1,1 1Relating to: recognizing April 8 as Wellness Day in Wisconsin.
AJR42,1,32 Whereas, the governor of the state of Wisconsin and the National Wellness
3Institute have joined forces to promote the importance of wellness; and
AJR42,1,64 Whereas, Wisconsin is recognized as the birthplace of the Wellness Concept and
5the Mecca of Wellness, and has disseminated that concept across the country and
6around the world; and
AJR42,1,97 Whereas, the federal Department of Health and Human Services sees the
8vision of "Healthy People in Healthy Communities" as an achievable goal across the
9country; and
AJR42,1,1410 Whereas, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, tobacco
11use and abuse, mental health disorders, personal injury and violence, unintended
12pregnancies, and sexually transmitted diseases continue to escalate health
13insurance costs; and can all be affected by individuals making healthy lifestyle
14choices; and

1Whereas, medical experts agree that by focusing attention on preventing rather
2than treating chronic disease it is possible to extend years of healthy life as well as
3decrease population health disparities; and
AJR42,2,64 Whereas, the state of Wisconsin, through education and assisting people to
5make positive health choices will economically benefit from activities that decrease
6dependence on health care facilities and services; and
AJR42,2,107 Whereas, the Board on Aging and Long-Term Care, the Department of Health
8Services, the Wisconsin Public Health Council, the Wisconsin Women's Council and
9other Wisconsin agencies and task forces are committed to improving the quality of
10the lives of the citizens of Wisconsin; and
AJR42,2,1211 Whereas, a Wellness Day will encourage school systems, corporations,
12communities, and individuals to begin a program of wellness; now, therefore, be it
AJR42,2,15 13Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
14Wisconsin legislature declare Wednesday April 8, 2009, as "Wellness Day" in
15Wisconsin.
