AJR7,1,32 Whereas, the Honorable Ted E. Wedemeyer, Jr., departed this life on July 23,
32008; and
AJR7,1,74 Whereas, Judge Wedemeyer was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on August 30,
51932, graduated from Marquette High School and the College of the Holy Cross,
6earned his law degree from Marquette University, and earned a master's degree in
7taxation from the John Marshall School of Law; and
AJR7,1,98 Whereas, Judge Wedemeyer served with distinction in the United States Air
9Force; and
AJR7,1,1410 Whereas, Judge Wedemeyer assisted in establishing the municipal court
11system in the city of Milwaukee in 1975, served as a municipal judge in that system,
12was appointed by Governor Schreiber to the circuit court in Milwaukee County in
131977, and was elected to the court of appeals in 1982, eventually serving as the
14presiding judge of District I; and

1Whereas, during his judicial career, Judge Wedemeyer was actively involved in
2changing the court system to include night court and the municipal court, onsite
3court hearings and building code violations inspections, and a pilot study of cameras
4in the courtroom in Wisconsin; and
AJR7,2,105 Whereas, Judge Wedemeyer made important contributions to the community
6as chair of the Board of Zoning Appeals in Milwaukee, as trustee of the Milwaukee
7Library System, as president of the Wisconsin Children's Service Society, as
8president of the Milwaukee Kickers, and as a member of the board of directors of the
9Wisconsin Soccer Association, Junior Achievement, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and
10Wisconsin Correctional Services; and
AJR7,2,1211 Whereas, Judge Wedemeyer was a founder and tireless promoter of youth
12soccer, particularly in his work developing the Milwaukee Kickers; and
AJR7,2,1613 Whereas, Judge Wedemeyer actively supported the German ethnic community
14in Milwaukee, serving as president of Goethe Haus Milwaukee, being involved in the
15Hessian Society of Wisconsin, and being a member of and performer with the
16Muellers German dance troupe; and
AJR7,2,2117 Whereas, Judge Wedemeyer was actively involved in the Wisconsin Easter Seal
18Society, St. Thomas More High School, the Milwaukee Christian Center, Volunteers
19of America, St. Joseph's Foundation, the American Legion, the Ancient Order of
20Hibernians, and the Wings of Corporate Mercy and was a member of the Fourth
21Degree Knights of Columbus; and
AJR7,2,2522 Whereas, Judge Wedemeyer was a founding member of the State Bar of
23Wisconsin Appellate Practice Section and served as one of its early chairs and,
24through work with the Judicial Council Appellate Procedure Committee, initiated
25many positive changes in state appellate practice rules; and

1Whereas, Judge Wedemeyer was a friend and mentor to countless judges and
2lawyers throughout the state; now, therefore, be it
AJR7,3,6 3Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
4Wisconsin legislature honor Judge Ted E. Wedemeyer, Jr., for his decades of public
5service and positive contribution to the development of the law and the fabric of the
6community in the city and county of Milwaukee and Wisconsin; and, be it further
AJR7,3,9 7Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
8resolution to Ted E. Wedemeyer's wife, Susan Wedemeyer, and to his sister, Suzanne
9McKee.
