2009 Assembly RESOLUTION 12

AR12,1,1 Relating to: commending the actions of Mayor Tom Barrett.

AR12,1,3 Whereas, Mayor Tom Barrett has a long history of public service to the people of Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin; and

AR12,1,6 Whereas, Mayor Tom Barrett was first elected to the Wisconsin state assembly in 1984; the Wisconsin state senate in 1989; U.S. Congress in 1992; and was elected Mayor of Milwaukee in 2004; and

AR12,1,8 Whereas, Mayor Tom Barrett has served the city of Milwaukee with honor and distinction through these challenging financial times; and

AR12,1,11 Whereas, Mayor Tom Barrett made national headlines on August 15, 2009, near the State Fair Park when he answered cries of help from a woman being threatened; and

AR12,1,14 Whereas, Mayor Tom Barrett confronted the assailant, was viciously attacked, and suffered serious facial and hand injuries while attempting to call authorities; and

AR12,2,2 Whereas, Mayor Tom Barrett, despite his extensive injuries, returned to the mayor's office within one week to resume his duties as leader of Milwaukee; and

AR12,2,4 Whereas, Mayor Tom Barrett should be recognized and commended for his brave act and effective leadership to help someone in need; now, therefore be it

AR12,2,7 Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly commend the heroic actions of Mayor Tom Barrett on behalf of a woman in need and wish him well and a speedy recovery from the injuries he sustained.
