SB158,1,2 1An Act to amend 346.46 (3) of the statutes; relating to: vehicle stops at railroad
2crossings.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law requires a vehicle operator, when approaching an official stop sign
at a railroad crossing, to stop the vehicle at least ten feet but not more than 30 feet
from the nearest rail before proceeding through the crossing.
This bill requires the stop to be made at least 15 feet but not more than 50 feet
from the nearest rail.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB158, s. 1 3Section 1. 346.46 (3) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB158,1,64 346.46 (3) Every operator of a vehicle approaching an official stop sign at a
5railroad crossing shall, before proceeding on or over such crossing, stop the vehicle
6not less than 10 15 nor more than 30 50 feet from the nearest rail.

1(1) This act first applies to violations committed on the effective date of this
2subsection, but does not preclude the counting of other violations as prior violations
3for purposes of sentencing a person.

6publication.
