SB42,1,1 1An Act relating to: a report on food safety programs.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer
Protection (DATCP) regulates retail food establishments, such as grocery stores, and
the Department of Health Services (DHS) regulates restaurants.
This bill requires DATCP and DHS to prepare a plan to consolidate their food
safety programs into one food safety program and to submit the plan to the
legislature.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB42, s. 1 2Section 1. Nonstatutory provisions.
SB42,2,53 (1) Report on food safety programs. The department of agriculture, trade and
4consumer protection and the department of health services, jointly, shall prepare a
5plan to consolidate their food safety programs into one food safety program. The
6departments shall appoint a committee of individuals with an interest in food safety

1to provide information and advice in the preparation of the plan. The departments
2shall submit a report on the plan, including a description of the efficiencies and the
3amount of savings that would result from the plan, to the members of the senate and
4assembly in the manner provided in section 13.172 (2) of the statutes no later than
5the first day of the 13th month beginning after the effective date of this subsection.
