AB149,1,2 1An Act to amend 256.35 (10) (a) of the statutes; relating to: false reporting of
2an emergency and providing a penalty.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a person who intentionally calls "911" to report an
emergency, knowing that the emergency that he or she is reporting does not exist,
must, for a first offense, be fined between $50 and $300, imprisoned not more than
90 days, or both. This bill changes the fine to be between $100 and $600.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB149, s. 1 3Section 1. 256.35 (10) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB149,1,84 256.35 (10) (a) Any person who intentionally dials the telephone number "911"
5to report an emergency, knowing that the fact situation which he or she reports does
6not exist, shall be fined not less than $50 $100 nor more than $300 $600 or
7imprisoned not more than 90 days or both for the first offense and is guilty of a Class
8H felony for any other offense committed within 4 years after the first offense.
