AJR18,1,32 Whereas, the world's first veterinary school was founded in Lyon, France, in
31761; and
AJR18,1,54 Whereas, 2011 will mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the
5veterinary medical profession; and
AJR18,1,86 Whereas, veterinarians have played an integral role in discovering the causes
7of numerous diseases that affect our nation's citizens such as salmonellosis, West
8Nile infection, yellow fever, and malaria; and
AJR18,1,109 Whereas, veterinarians provide valuable public health service through
10preventive medicine, control of zoonotic diseases, and scientific research; and
AJR18,1,1311 Whereas, veterinarians have advanced human and animal health by inventing
12and refining techniques and instrumentations, such as artificial hips, bone plates,
13splints, and arthroscopy; and

1Whereas, veterinarians protect the quality and security of the global food
2supply and provide crucial assistance to the agricultural independence of developing
3nations around the world; and
AJR18,2,64 Whereas, the 2011 legislature appreciates the importance of veterinarians in
5Wisconsin, and the importance of the veterinary profession on its 250th anniversary;

AJR18,2,97 Whereas, Wisconsin veterinarians are dedicated to preserving the
8human-animal bond and promoting the highest standards of science-based, ethical
9animal welfare; now, therefore, be it
AJR18,2,11 10Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature
11hereby recognizes 2011 as World Veterinary Year; and, be it further
AJR18,2,13 12Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
13resolution to the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association.
