AJR22,1,42 Whereas, former Representative Steve Hilgenberg was born on November 26,
31944, in Appleton, Wisconsin, and lived in rural Iowa County since 1972, and died
4on March 27, 2011; and
AJR22,1,75 Whereas, Steve Hilgenberg attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison
6before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1966, during which time he was stationed in
7Germany for three years; and
AJR22,1,108 Whereas, Steve Hilgenberg, after receiving a diploma in graphic arts and
9printing from Madison Area Technical College in 1973, thereafter served the
10community for 27 years as owner of Inkwell Printers; and
AJR22,1,1311 Whereas, Steve Hilgenberg served on the Dodgeville School Board for seven
12years and was a community representative for the Head Start Policy Council for
13three years; and
AJR22,2,614 Whereas, Steve Hilgenberg served as a Democratic state representative for the
1551st Assembly District from 2006-2010. As a state representative, he served as chair

1of the Assembly Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs (2009-2010),
2vice-chair of the Assembly Committee on Renewable Energy and Rural Affairs
3(2009-2010), and served as a member of the Assembly Committees on Insurance
4(2007-2008), Rural Economic Development (2007-2008), Small Business
5(2007-2008), Education (2009-2010), and Tourism, Recreation, and State Properties
6(2009-2010); and
AJR22,2,87 Whereas, Steve Hilgenberg promoted impartial justice by championing
8legislation that created public financing for supreme court elections in 2009; and
AJR22,2,119 Whereas, Steve Hilgenberg strongly supported renewable energy and rural
10economic development by promoting renewable energy investment on farms and in
11rural communities; and
AJR22,2,1512 Whereas, Steve Hilgenberg demonstrated true leadership and dedication to
13veterans by improving access to education, employment, and health care
14opportunities as the chair of the Assembly Committee on Veterans and Military
15Affairs; and
AJR22,2,1816 Whereas, Steve Hilgenberg was a staunch advocate for the advancement of our
17public schools and greater equitability in Wisconsin's school funding, so that each
18and every child would receive an exceptional educational experience; and
AJR22,2,2119 Whereas, Steve Hilgenberg was husband to Mary Mayo, father to Molly Herr
20and her husband, Mark, and grandfather to Evan and Carson Herr; now, therefore,

AJR22,2,25 22Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
23Wisconsin state legislature hereby commend the exemplary life of Steven
24Hilgenberg, express their sorrow at his death, and extend sincere condolences to
25family, friends, and colleagues; and, be it further

1Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution
2to Steve Hilgenberg's widow, Mary Mayo, and his daughter, Molly Herr.
