AJR43,1,1 1Relating to: the life and public service of Sheriff Raymond Klink.
AJR43,1,42 Whereas, Sheriff Raymond Klink was born on July 23, 1930, in North Lake,
3Wisconsin, and died on January 17, 2011, a lifelong resident of Waukesha County;
4and
AJR43,1,65 Whereas, Ray served his community with great distinction as a law
6enforcement officer in Waukesha County for over 35 years; and
AJR43,1,87 Whereas, Ray began his career in law enforcement in 1958 when he joined the
8Waukesha County Sheriff's Department; and
AJR43,1,109 Whereas, Ray was elected to the position of Waukesha County Sheriff in 1978;
10and
AJR43,1,1411 Whereas, Ray was instrumental in advancing the mission and goals of the
12department, including hiring Waukesha County's first female deputy in 1979,
13instituting both the D.A.R.E. Program and Metro Drug Unit in Waukesha County,
14and raising private funds to begin a canine unit; and

1Whereas, Ray displayed unwavering leadership and was held in the highest
2regard by his colleagues upon the time of his retirement in 1992; and
AJR43,2,73 Whereas, Ray received many professional and personal accolades during his
4life, including appointment as emergency government coordinator of southeastern
5Wisconsin by Governor Warren Knowles, induction into the Land O' Lakes Old
6Timers Hall of Fame in 1978, and induction into the Wisconsin Baseball Hall of Fame
7in 1999; and
AJR43,2,138 Whereas, Ray continued to be active in his community following his retirement
9by volunteering with the American Cancer Society's Jail and Bail program,
10volunteering with the Land O' Lakes Old Timers and later serving as the group's
11president, influencing the lives of countless young people through his athletic
12coaching at St. Dominic's Grade School, and engaging in a number of other
13recreational and community activities that he enjoyed greatly; and
AJR43,2,1714 Whereas, Ray benefited greatly throughout his life and career from the strong
15love and support of his wife of 55 years, Margaret, their daughter Robin, son-in-law
16Brian, granddaughters Emily and Molly, and brother Patrick; and always displayed
17total devotion to his family; now, therefore, be it
AJR43,2,21 18Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
19Wisconsin legislature do commend the distinguished career and public service that
20Sheriff Raymond Klink contributed to his community, express their sorrow at his
21death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
AJR43,2,23 22Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
23resolution to Ray's widow, Margaret, and to his daughter, Robin.
