AJR55,1,32 Whereas, Craig Allen Birkholz was born on April 5, 1982, in Kenosha,
3Wisconsin, the son of William and Gay Anne Birkholz; and
AJR55,1,64 Whereas, Craig Allen Birkholz graduated from Tremper High School in
5Kenosha, Wisconsin, in the spring of 2000 and was a Kenosha Police Department
6Explorer Scout; and
AJR55,1,107 Whereas, Craig Allen Birkholz honorably served in the U.S. Army 511th
8Military Police Company, 10th Mountain Division, out of Fort Drum, New York,
9attaining the rank of sergeant and serving in Afghanistan from January 30, 2002,
10to August 22, 2002, and in Iraq from March 10, 2003, to February 26, 2004; and
AJR55,2,211 Whereas, Craig Allen Birkholz was the recipient of the Army Commendation
12Medal 2nd Award, Army Achievement Medal 2nd Award, Good Conduct Medal,
13National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on
14Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Noncommissioned Officer's

1Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, the Expert Marksmanship
2Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, and the Driver Mechanic Badge; and
AJR55,2,53 Whereas, in December 2008 Craig Allen Birkholz graduated cum laude from
4the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a bachelors degree in criminal justice;
5and
AJR55,2,86 Whereas, Craig Allen Birkholz was hired by the city of Fond du Lac police
7department on May 11, 2009, where he proudly wore and kept his badge
8untarnished; and
AJR55,2,109 Whereas, Craig Allen Birkholz married Ashley Czarnowski on September 19,
102009, at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church; and
AJR55,2,1311 Whereas, on Sunday, March 20, 2011, Craig Allen Birkholz heard the calls of
12"shots fired" and "officer down" and promptly responded with haste and disregard
13for his own safety to the aid of his fellow officers; and
AJR55,2,1514 Whereas, Craig Allen Birkholz, at the age of 28, laid down his life while
15attempting to save the lives of others; now, therefore, be it
AJR55,2,19 16Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
17Wisconsin legislature commend the life and public service of Craig Allen Birkholz,
18mourn his passing, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be
19it further
AJR55,2,21 20Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
21resolution to Craig Allen Birkholz's wife, Ashley, and their family.
