AJR61,1,32 Whereas, Gervase A. Hephner was born on February 5, 1936, in Rantoul,
3Wisconsin, and died on June 26, 2011, in Chilton, Wisconsin; and
AJR61,1,44 Whereas, he graduated from Chilton High School; and
AJR61,1,55 Whereas, Mr. Hephner served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956; and
AJR61,1,76 Whereas, he earned a B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh
7in 1960; and
AJR61,1,98 Whereas, Mr. Hephner was first elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1966,
9serving in the 1967 to 1985 sessions; and
AJR61,1,1210 Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature, Mr. Hephner authored
11legislation to establish a veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
12and the "Something Special from Wisconsin" agricultural promotion; and
AJR61,1,1513 Whereas, at its 55th annual convention held in June 1984, the Wisconsin
14Future Farmers of America (FFA) honored Gervase with the Honorary State
15Farmers Degree, the highest honor of FFA; and

1Whereas, Mr. Hephner left the assembly to pursue the Democratic nomination
2for lieutenant governor; and
AJR61,2,53 Whereas, Gervase became a lobbyist for six organizations, including the
4Wisconsin Tavern League, the National Farm Organization, and Scientific Games,
5Inc.; now, therefore, be it
AJR61,2,9 6Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
7Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Gervase A. Hephner
8contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and
9extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
AJR61,2,12 10Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
11resolution to Mr. Hephner's wife, Kay; his daughters, Mary and Ann; and his sons,
12John and Tim.
