AJR71,1,53 Whereas, Michael R. Lovell, Ph.D., was confirmed as Chancellor of the
4University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee by the University of Wisconsin System Board
5of Regents on May 2, 2011; and
AJR71,1,96 Whereas, since his arrival on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus,
7Chancellor Lovell has been named a State of Wisconsin Distinguished Professor, a
8designation by the University of Wisconsin System that recognizes and supports
9professorships in areas of vital or emerging significance to the state; and
AJR71,1,1410 Whereas, one of Chancellor Lovell's most significant accomplishments since
11joining the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee includes helping to create the
12Wisconsin Energy Research Consortium, a historic partnership among University of
13Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette University, Milwaukee School of Engineering,
14University of Wisconsin-Madison, and regional power and energy industries; and

1Whereas, as dean of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee College of
2Engineering and Applied Science from 2008 to 2010, Chancellor Lovell guided the
3college to a 250 percent increase in research expenditures and nearly a 350 percent
4increase in philanthropic support; and
AJR71,2,75 Whereas, Chancellor Lovell celebrated his inauguration as the eighth
6chancellor in the history of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on October 14, 2011;

AJR71,2,118 Whereas, through his hard work and dedication, Chancellor Lovell will guide
9the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to new heights and focus the faculty, staff,
10and students to make a difference through their teaching and research on the
11challenges facing our region, state, nation, and world; now, therefore, be it
AJR71,2,15 12Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
13legislature commends Chancellor Michael Lovell as he begins his new assignment
14and wishes him continued success in teaching our new state leaders in how to serve
15others and make a positive difference for our community.
