AJR75,1,2 Relating to: proclaiming November 10, 2011, to be Worldwide NET Cancer Awareness Day.

AJR75,1,5 Whereas, the incidence of neuroendocrine tumors, difficult to detect and diagnose, is on the rise globally, with around 11,000 people diagnosed nationally each year; and

AJR75,1,8 Whereas, according to the the Worldwide NET Cancer Awareness Campaign, neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) often develop into cancer and, if left untreated, can result in serious illness and death; and

AJR75,1,11 Whereas, the NET Cancer Awareness Campaign notes that neuroendocrine tumors can manifest myriad clinical symptoms, many of which are nonspecific and vague; and

AJR75,1,14 Whereas, early and accurate diagnosis, recognition of the malignant and metastatic potential of neuroendocrine tumors, and access to treatment is vital to survival for NET cancer patients; and

AJR75,2,2 Whereas, with timely detection and proper treatment, NET cancer patients can have significantly improved outcomes and quality of life; and

AJR75,2,4 Whereas, the theme for the second Worldwide NET Cancer Awareness Day is early detection of NET cancers; now, therefore, be it

AJR75,2,9 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature proclaims November 10, 2011, to be Worldwide NET Cancer Awareness Day and encourages patients, caregivers, health care professionals, and the wider community to raise awareness about NET cancers and the need for timely diagnosis and access to optimal treatment and care.
