AJR96,1,2 Relating to: honoring the Wisconsin Wetlands Association and congratulating them on being awarded the 2012 Wetland Conservation Award.

AJR96,1,4 Whereas, the Wisconsin Wetlands Association (WWA) has been awarded the 2012 Wetland Conservation Award by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands; and

AJR96,1,6 Whereas, the WWA was selected for this honor because of the organization's outstanding achievements in the area of wetland education; and

AJR96,1,8 Whereas, the WWA is the first recipient of this prestigious award from the United States; and

AJR96,1,10 Whereas, wetlands reduce flooding, improve water quality, and increase hunting, fishing, and recreation spending; and

AJR96,1,12 Whereas, Wisconsin has historically done a better job than our neighboring states in protecting and preserving wetlands; and

AJR96,1,14 Whereas, the WWA's "Wetland Gems" program recognizes and promotes 100 high-quality Wisconsin wetland sites; and

AJR96,2,2 Whereas, the WWA's "Wetland Gems" program has increased public appreciation for all of Wisconsin's wetlands; now, therefore, be it

AJR96,2,6 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature honor the Wisconsin Wetlands Association for its contributions to preserving Wisconsin's wetlands and congratulate the organization on earning the international 2012 Wetland Conservation Award.
