AR20,1,1 1Relating to: proclaiming Catholic Schools Week.
AR20,1,42 Whereas, Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee have a rich
3tradition of serving children in schools, families, and other parish activities, and are
4the cornerstones of many South Side Milwaukee neighborhoods; and
AR20,1,75 Whereas, the Catholic Schools of the Milwaukee Archdiocese operates 101
6elementary schools and 14 high schools with a 2010-11 enrollment total of 31,984
7students in the Milwaukee area; and
AR20,1,118 Whereas, Marquette University formed the oldest Catholic high school in
9Milwaukee, founded in 1857; as an academy not only to educate Catholic immigrants
10in their faith, but also to aid their families and the community by encouraging
11productive employment and civic involvement; and
AR20,1,1312 Whereas, nearly all students that attend a Catholic school in the Milwaukee
13Archdiocese go on to graduate from high school; and
AR20,1,1514 Whereas, a vast majority of students in the Milwaukee Archdiocese go on to
15pursue some form of higher education; and

1Whereas, a Catholic high school senior achieves an average ACT score of 23.6,
2which consistently ranks at or above both the state average and the national average;
3now, therefore, be it
AR20,2,5 4Resolved by the assembly, That the assembly proclaims the week of January
529 through February 5 to be Catholic Schools Week.
