SB112,1,3 1An Act to create 84.10235 of the statutes; relating to: designating and marking
2a bridge on STH 33 in the city of Portage as the Pierre Pauquette Memorial
3Bridge.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, certain highway routes and bridges have been designated
and marked to memorialize, commemorate, or recognize certain individuals, groups,
or events. This bill directs the Department of Transportation to designate and, upon
receipt of sufficient contributions from interested parties, mark the bridge on STH
33 across the Wisconsin River in the city of Portage as the "Pierre Pauquette
Memorial Bridge" to recognize and honor this fearless and honest early settler of
Wisconsin who operated a ferry business across the Wisconsin River and served as
an intermediary between the federal government and the Native Americans of the
area. No state funds, other than from contributions from interested parties, may be
used for the erection or maintenance of any markers to identify the bridge as the
"Pierre Pauquette Memorial Bridge."
For further information see the local fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
