SB289,1,2 1An Act to amend 120.13 (31) of the statutes; relating to: the appointment of
2adult school crossing guards.

Current law allows the governing body of any city, village, town, or county to
adopt an ordinance for the appointment of adult school crossing guards. Current law
also allows a school district to appoint adult school crossing guards if the school board
adopts a resolution to do so and the governing bodies of all of the cities, villages, and
towns located in whole or in part within the school district approve.
Under this bill, a school district may determine to appoint adult school crossing
guards unilaterally; approval by the cities, villages, and towns located in the school
district is unnecessary.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB289, s. 1 3Section 1. 120.13 (31) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB289,2,44 120.13 (31) School crossing guards. Upon the adoption of a resolution to do
5so and approval of the resolution by the governing bodies of all of the cities, villages
6and towns located in whole or in part within the school district
, provide for the

1appointment of adult school crossing guards for the protection of persons who are
2crossing a highway in the vicinity of a school. The school crossing guards shall wear
3insignia or uniforms which designate them as school crossing guards and shall be
4equipped with signals or signs to direct traffic to stop at school crossings.
