2011 - 2012 LEGISLATURE
April 15, 2011 - Introduced by Senator Galloway, cosponsored by Representatives
Petrowski, Seidel, Mursau and Spanbauer. Referred to Committee on
Transportation and Elections.
SB61,1,2 1An Act to repeal 348.27 (15) (e) of the statutes; relating to: multiple trip
2permits for overweight vehicles transporting granular roofing material.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, with limited exceptions, no person may operate on a
highway any vehicle or vehicle combination (vehicle) that exceeds certain statutory
weight limits unless the person obtains a permit issued by the Department of
Transportation (DOT) or a local authority, as applicable. Subject to certain
restrictions, DOT issues to qualifying applicants multiple trip permits for the
transportation of granular roofing material in vehicles that exceed, by not more than
10,000 pounds, the generally applicable statutory gross weight limitation of 80,000
pounds. However, DOT may not issue these permits after August 1, 2011.
This bill eliminates the August 1, 2011, expiration of these permits, allowing
DOT to continue issuing the permits after this date.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
