SJR26,1,53 Whereas, the Office of the Municipal Clerk, a time-honored and vital part of
4local government that exists throughout the world as the oldest profession among
5public servants; and
SJR26,1,86 Whereas, the municipal clerk provides the professional connection between the
7citizens, the local governing bodies, and the agencies of government at the local,
8county, and state levels; and
SJR26,1,119 Whereas, municipal clerks have pledged to be ever mindful of their neutrality
10and impartiality, rendering equal service to all residents through transparency and
11accountable government practices; and
SJR26,1,1412 Whereas, the municipal clerk processes and distributes all agendas and actions
13of his or her governing body and serves as the official record keeper for the
14municipality; and

1Whereas, the municipal clerk also issues licenses and permits, facilitates the
2annual Board of Review and Municipal Redistricting Project, attends various
3meetings of the municipality, and serves as a resource center on functions of the local
4government and the community; and
SJR26,2,65 Whereas, on the local level, the municipal clerk is the key element in election
6administration; and
SJR26,2,87 Whereas, the municipal clerk is dedicated to providing fair, un-biased,
8nonpartisan, accurate, and responsible elections in Wisconsin; and
SJR26,2,149 Whereas, municipal clerks continually strive to improve the administration of
10the responsibilities of the office of the municipal clerk through participation in
11education programs, seminars, workshops, focus groups, and annual conferences
12sponsored by the Wisconsin Municipal Clerks Association, the International
13Institute of Municipal Clerks, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, as well as the
14Government Accountability Board and other state agencies; and
SJR26,2,1815 Whereas, it is most appropriate that we recognize the accomplishments,
16dedication, and commitment of municipal clerks and extend appreciation to
17municipal clerks across the state of Wisconsin, for the vital services they perform and
18their exemplary dedication to the communities they represent; now, therefore, be it
SJR26,2,21 19Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
20Wisconsin legislature recognize May 1 through May 7, 2011, as Municipal Clerks
21Week; and, be it further
SJR26,2,23 22Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
23resolution to the Wisconsin Municipal Clerks Association.
