2011 Senate JOINT RESOLUTION 30

SJR30,1,1 Relating to: honoring the Wisconsin National Guard 950th Engineer Company.

SJR30,1,4 Whereas, the Wisconsin National Guard 950th Engineer Company was deployed in April 2010 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn; and

SJR30,1,6 Whereas, the 950th Engineer Company, based in Superior, was one of eight engineering companies that made up the 724th Engineer Battalion; and

SJR30,1,8 Whereas, the 950th Engineer Company was a part of the only remaining engineering battalion in Iraq before recently returning home; and

SJR30,1,11 Whereas, the 950th Engineer Company's 101 soldiers returned home on February 18, 2011, to a crowd of nearly 1,000 friends and family after a ten-month deployment in Iraq; and

SJR30,1,14 Whereas, the 950th Engineer Company, operating as Task Force Badger, has been awarded 135 combat action badges, six Purple Heart medals and four combat medic badges; and

SJR30,2,4 Whereas, the 950th Engineer Company's principal mission, as part of the Task Force Badger, was to provide freedom of movement throughout Iraq. The task force cleared an area of 200,000 kilometers, searching and removing roadside bombs, leading the battalion to adopt the motto, "We hunt what others fear"; and

SJR30,2,8 Whereas, the 950th Engineer Company also removed five major military bridges, completed construction work for Iraqi forces, trained Iraqi forces in bridging techniques, and assisted the state department in the construction of Contingency Operation Station Erbil in northern Iraq; and

SJR30,2,11 Whereas, the state of Wisconsin is forever grateful to the soldiers of the Wisconsin National Guard 950th Engineer Company for their service to their country; now, therefore, be it

SJR30,2,15 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That that the legislature of the state of Wisconsin honors the Wisconsin National Guard 950th Engineer Company for its dedication, bravery, valor, and service to our country and our state; and, be it further

SJR30,2,17 Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to the soldiers of the Wisconsin National Guard 950th Engineer Company.
