AJR100,1,1 Relating to: proclaiming March 8, 2014, International Women's Day.

AJR100,1,5 Whereas, 2014 marks the 103rd annual International Women's Day, first celebrated in Europe, and endorsed since the 1970s with annual proclamations by the President of the United States and internationally by the United Nations General Assembly; and

AJR100,1,11 Whereas, International Women's Day is observed around the world to celebrate the social, political, and economic achievements of women while focusing world attention on areas requiring further action, finding that empowering women to participate fully in economic life across all sectors is essential to build stronger economies and improve the quality of life for women, men, families, and communities; and

AJR100,1,14 Whereas, on this day, we celebrate advancements in the social and economic status of women in Wisconsin, including achievement of high levels of educational attainment, business ownership, and leadership in our state; and

AJR100,2,5 Whereas, we also recognize that barriers remain to women's social and economic progress, including women's disproportionate representation among those living below the poverty line, ongoing income disparities, and the safety and welfare of women and girls as affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking; and

AJR100,2,8 Whereas, the state of Wisconsin has a proud tradition and deep commitment to foster a community in which gender is no longer the basis of either privilege or denial of opportunity; now, therefore, be it

AJR100,2,10 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That March 8, 2014, shall be designated as International Women's Day in Wisconsin.
