AJR100,1,52 Whereas, 2014 marks the 103rd annual International Women's Day, first
3celebrated in Europe, and endorsed since the 1970s with annual proclamations by
4the President of the United States and internationally by the United Nations
5General Assembly; and
AJR100,1,116 Whereas, International Women's Day is observed around the world to celebrate
7the social, political, and economic achievements of women while focusing world
8attention on areas requiring further action, finding that empowering women to
9participate fully in economic life across all sectors is essential to build stronger
10economies and improve the quality of life for women, men, families, and
11communities; and
AJR100,1,1412 Whereas, on this day, we celebrate advancements in the social and economic
13status of women in Wisconsin, including achievement of high levels of educational
14attainment, business ownership, and leadership in our state; and

1Whereas, we also recognize that barriers remain to women's social and
2economic progress, including women's disproportionate representation among those
3living below the poverty line, ongoing income disparities, and the safety and welfare
4of women and girls as affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human
5trafficking; and
AJR100,2,86 Whereas, the state of Wisconsin has a proud tradition and deep commitment
7to foster a community in which gender is no longer the basis of either privilege or
8denial of opportunity; now, therefore, be it
AJR100,2,10 9Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That March 8, 2014,
10shall be designated as International Women's Day in Wisconsin.
