AJR21,1,2 1To amend section 11 of article IV and section 26 (2)(b) of article IV of the constitution;
2relating to: meeting of the legislature and compensation of members.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
  This proposed constitutional amendment, proposed to the 2013 legislature on
first consideration, requires the regular legislative session to end by March 31 and
limits the salary for each member of the legislature to $12,000, to be adjusted for
inflation by the secretary of state.
  A proposed constitutional amendment requires adoption by two successive
legislatures, and ratification by the people, before it can become effective.
AJR21,1,3 3Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That:
AJR21,1 4Section 1. Section 11 of article IV of the constitution is amended to read:
AJR21,1,105 [Article IV] Section 11. The legislature shall meet at the seat of government in
6regular session
at such time as shall be provided by law, unless convened by the
7except that the legislature may not meet in regular session after March 31. The
8governor may convene the legislature in special session, and when so convened no
9business shall be transacted except as shall be necessary to accomplish the special
10purposes for which it was convened.

1Section 2. Section 26 (2) (b) of article IV of the constitution is amended to read:
AJR21,2,62 [Article IV] Section 26 (2) (b) The salary for each member of the legislature shall
3be $12,000 annually, to be adjusted for inflation by the secretary of state.
Any
4increase in the compensation of members of the legislature shall take effect, for all
5senators and representatives to the assembly, after the next general election
6beginning with the new assembly term.
AJR21,2,9 7Be it further resolved, That this proposed amendment be referred to the
8legislature to be chosen at the next general election and that it be published for three
9months previous to the time of holding such election.
