AJR29,1,1 1Relating to: the life and public service of Judge William J. Duffy.
AJR29,1,42 Whereas, William J. Duffy was born on October 29, 1916, in North Branch,
3Minnesota, and died on February 25, 2012, at his home in Green Bay, Wisconsin, at
4the age of 96; and
AJR29,1,75 Whereas, William J. Duffy grew up in Hollandtown, Wisconsin, and graduated
6from Kaukauna High School and St. Norbert College, followed by law school at the
7University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1941; and
AJR29,1,98 Whereas, upon graduation from law school William J. Duffy enlisted in the U.S.
9Army Air Corps, serving as a captain in the South Pacific during World War II; and
AJR29,1,1210 Whereas, while working at his law practice in Green Bay, William J. Duffy took
11an interest in politics, helping to re-establish the Democratic Party in Wisconsin;
12and
AJR29,1,1413 Whereas, in 1948 William J. Duffy was elected to the state assembly from
14Brown County's Second District, serving one term in the body; and

1Whereas, after serving in the assembly, William J. Duffy returned to his law
2practice until he was elected to the bench as a Brown County circuit court judge,
3where he served proudly until 1992; and
AJR29,2,54 Whereas, throughout his life, William J. Duffy worked tirelessly to serve,
5support, and promote the Green Bay community; and
AJR29,2,96 Whereas, William J. Duffy was the loving husband of Elizabeth "Betty" Duffy;
7the beloved father of five children, Mary, Michael, Sally, Trish, and John; and
8grandfather to ten grandchildren, Timothy, Patrick, William (Julie), John, Abby,
9Duffy (Sammie), Charlie, Henry, Margaret, and Liam; now, therefore, be it
AJR29,2,13 10Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
11Wisconsin legislature commend the life and public service of Judge William J. Duffy,
12mourn his passing, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be
13it further
AJR29,2,15 14Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
15resolution to William J. Duffy's children, Mary, Michael, Sally, Trish, and John.
