AJR77,1,2 1To amend section 4 (1) (c) of article VI of the constitution; relating to: appointment
2of treasurer in Milwaukee county (first consideration).

The constitution provides that county treasurers shall be elected in each county.
This amendment, proposed to the 2013 legislature on first consideration, provides
that Milwaukee county shall have the option of either electing the county treasurer
or having that position be appointed by the county executive, with the concurrence
of the county board, unless another method of appointment is provided by law.
A proposed constitutional amendment requires adoption by two successive
legislatures, and ratification by the people, before it can become effective.
AJR77,1,3 3Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That:
AJR77,1 4Section 1. Section 4 (1) (c) of article VI of the constitution is amended to read:
AJR77,2,85 [Article VI] Section 4 (1) (c) Beginning with the first general election at which
6the president is elected which occurs after the ratification of this paragraph, district
7attorneys, registers of deeds, county clerks, and treasurers, except the treasurer in
8Milwaukee county,
shall be chosen by the electors of the respective counties, or by the
9electors of all of the respective counties comprising each combination of counties

1combined by the legislature for that purpose, for the term of 4 years and surveyors
2in counties in which the office of surveyor is filled by election shall be chosen by the
3electors of the respective counties, or by the electors of all of the respective counties
4comprising each combination of counties combined by the legislature for that
5purpose, for the term of 4 years. In Milwaukee county, the county executive shall
6appoint the treasurer, with the concurrence of the county board, unless another
7method of appointment is provided by law or unless the county board votes to make
8the office elective.
AJR77,2,11 9Be it further resolved, That this proposed amendment be referred to the
10legislature to be chosen at the next general election and that it be published for three
11months previous to the time of holding such election.
