2013 Senate JOINT RESOLUTION 19

SJR19,1,2 Relating to: the life and military service of United States Army First Lieutenant David Andrew Johnson.

SJR19,1,5 Whereas, David was born on November 28, 1987, in Beloit, Wisconsin, to Andrew and Laura Johnson, and died on January 25, 2012, in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, while conducting a dismounted patrol; and

SJR19,1,9 Whereas, David was a 2006 graduate of Mayville High School in Mayville, Wisconsin, attended Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri, graduating in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree, and completed his basic training in the United States Army at Fort Sill in Oklahoma in 2006; and

SJR19,2,2 Whereas, in 2007 David completed his AIT Chaplain Assistant training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and was awarded an ROTC scholarship with the Bear Battalion associated with Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. David was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May 2010. In January 2011, David graduated from the Infantry Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. He also completed Combatives Level I and II and the Stryker Brigade Combat Team Leader's Course; and

SJR19,2,5 Whereas, David served with distinction in the United States Army 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; and

SJR19,2,7 Whereas, David embodied the Army's core values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage and he is sorely missed; and

SJR19,2,11 Whereas, David was the beloved son of Andrew and Laura Johnson; brother to Michael, Matthew, and Emily; and dear friend to many, and his family and fellow citizens are proud to have known him and admire his devotion to family, faith, and country; now, therefore, be it

SJR19,2,15 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of David Andrew Johnson and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues; and, be it further

SJR19,2,18 Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to David's parents, Andrew and Laura Johnson, and David's brothers, Michael and Matthew, and sister, Emily.
